B i o g r a p h y

Mr. Zuniga  began playing the bass at the age of 15.  He studied in Panama with Professor Roberto Florez at the Instituto Nacional de Musica, Panama (INAM) and served as the principal bass of the INAM orchestra for five years.  At the early age of 17 he joined the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama.  During 2008 he received his bachelor of music in double bass performance from the INAM.  Ricardo has played in master classes from many bassists, including Edgar Meyer, Oscar Carnero, Edicson Ruiz, Klaus Stoll, Albert Lazlo, Boguslav Furtok, and Harold Robinson. He has participated in music festivals and programs such as Instrumenta Puebla Mexico 2004, Orquesta de Jovenes Latinoamericanos Caracas, Venezuela 2005 and The Pacific Music Festival 2013, (PMF) in Japan.  In September 2009 he performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  He also served as double bass instructor at The Young School of Music of Panama during 2009.  In 2010 he was the double bass instructor at the INAM summer music camp.  In June of 2012 he was invited to be a member of the Camerata Alfredo de Saint Malo (Panama), where he also served as a faculty member for the festival.  He is currently a member of the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama, Round-Rock Symphony Orchestra and Victoria Symphony in Victoria, Texas.  He is often invited to perform with the Austin Lyric Opera, Austin Symphony, and the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.  He completed his Masters and Doctoral Degrees at the University of Texas at Austin under the guidance of  Professor DaXun Zhang.  He taught  double bass at  the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Austin TX. Mr. Zuniga  Currently teaches at the National University of  Panama and is the Double bass Professor at the National Institute of Music of Panama (Conservatoire ). Mr. Zuniga is founder and  also serves as  president at ConsortMusik, the first classical music company  in Panama which was  established in 2017.
